We set sail for what we thought would be a quick sail to St. Joseph, MI and back. We knew we were short on gas as we departed Chicago at 7:35pm on August 29th, but it took us another 10 minute to discover that we were also short on navigational skills. We had three compasses aboard all giving different reading and only a general idea of how to find our way on a map. This gave us all a brief moment of pause about whether we were prepared for this. But there was no wind that night, so it didn't really matter. We settled in, ate dinner and watched the sun set over Chicago.
Around 1pm we caught some wind and in a few hours we had consistent winds pushing us at 6 kts to St. Joes. We stopped along the way for a quick swim, but it was an uneventful passage once we got moving.
